North to Alaska
Our hotel was right opposite the cruise liner terminal so Greg saw the Zuidedam arrive at about 6.30 am. When i went to take some photos 2 hours later they were painting the verandahs on one side. Nancy our tour director was delighted that we had been 'invited' to board first (less waiting around). We left the hotel at 8.45 am and had all cleared customs and immigration by 10.30am ready for boarding at 11am. US customs seemed to make everyone a bit anxious, we were all happy once we were through that.
Our rooms were ready when we boarded but our luggage didnt arive in the room till after lunch.Thank goodness we have a verandah stateroom, I'd hate to be without that light and view. We spent time exploring the ship, getting lost several times.
We celebrated the start of the cruise with a couple of glasses of champagne in the Crows Nest bar, a great spot right in the bow on level 10. ( Level 11 is the top level - outside observation deck). There is also quite a good library on level 10 with soft recliner chairs.
Unpacked suitcases and put them away in the cupboard for the next 6 days - hurray!
In bed by 8 pm, feeling tired and relaxed!
