Vancouver to Juneau
Posts to the blog for the next few days will be spasmodic, at best. Internet connection on board is expensive, and as it is satellite-based it is slow and unreliable.
Started the day with 10 minutes on the walking machine before the 7am Sunrise Strech class followed by 25 minutes Abs class. Enjoyed the stretching and will try to attend every day. Not so sure about the Abs class! Greg did 60 minutes on the walking machine.
At 10am I went to a talk about shore excursions followed by one on shopping in Alaska which turned out to be a advertisement for some of the shops on shore that pay to be promoted on board. There was a big push to get people to buy diamonds and tanzanite. And there were some ken customers too! But not me!
Amongst the various activities on board during the day, believe it or not Microsoft rent a room on the ship where a Holland America line employee holds classes for various computer activities, mostly associated with digital photography and how wonderful Microsoft software is for handling your photos. But there also is a couple of "spin" classes about the new Windows 8.1, which Greg has yet to like. He went to a session on Windows 8.1 but was not converted - waste of time!
By this time we had left the shelter of Vancouver Island and there was a swell running and strong wind. Greg felt very uncomfortable so he skipped lunch, took a couple of my Travel Calm tablets and slept all afternoon. By the time he woke up we were back in sheltered waters so he is feeling OK again but only had a light dinner.
We have had all our meals in the Lido dining room which is a huge area with all diferent kinds of food buffet style - very casual. I'd like to try one of the other areas tomorrow.
Tonight I went to Showtime: in concert with the Zuiderdam singers and dancers. Greg declined to join me. Bit like the Bobby Limb Show from the 1960s. The lead singers had good voices but mics too loud. Lots a sparkly costumes - must have been a costume change every 3 minutes. Think I'll pass on any other Showtimes.
