Up early for a walk along the shore of the lake before breakfast. It really is a picturesque setting. You can see the ice has melted a little bit more overnight. The water is very clear. It changes colour depending on the season and is a clear blue in late summer.
The dining rom for breakfast is huge and mainly full of Japanese and Australian tourists. The Japanese are there at 7 am and most of the Australians rock up at about 8 am. We have a 'late' start today so we take advantage of it.
There are shops in the hotel so there is time for a browse.The hotel is quite isolated so there isn't alot to do other than enjoy the views.
It's a bit rainy but we venture out with our guide for a tour. He's very animated and expects us to join in the session shouting out answers to his questions - bit like being in school. Greg finds him very irritating but most people seem to enjoy his style. At least he isn't boring and he shares some great info. One of the glaciers we can see in the distance and which feeds the lake appears to be about 10-20 m thick but is in fact 5.5 Centrepoint towers thick.
In winter they build an ice palace on the frozen lake but although there is ice all around them they spend $20,000 to import pure ice from Vancouver to build it.
We head off for lunch and a ride up the mountain in a gondola. Greg isnt keen on heights so I go with Anne & Bob. We have the choice of an open ski lift style chair or an enclosed gondola. Its Anne's call as she isnt good with heights either but she opts for the ski lift which is fine with me. It's chilly but fresh and a bit bumpy but we get there and enjoy the view. We can't resist taking yet more photos of snow capped mountains.
Dinner is a BBQ and Muster so it's on with the boots and jeans and off in a horse drawn cart for a 10 minute ride to the barn. The two piece band quickly gets the dancing started. Bob
